Mini Update
This week was mercifully short and mostly occupied with the day job and being “on” the whole week. Given I’m writing this last minute on Sunday, I’m happy it’s a short one.
What did I do this week
Podcast
I published the first episode of season 2 of my podcast. Thoroughly Overthinking It (or TOI for short) has a lot of potential for sticking this time, given the new spin on it. Recording with a guest was such a nice experience. I won’t be able to do it all the time, but I’m shooting for one each month to lighten it up. I had a lot of practice getting tracks synced and edited in Reaper.fm, so that was an added learning opportunity.
Moving
The countdown to my move date is getting closer at a much more rapid pace than I expected. I’m usually a week ahead on packing and planning the exact calendar for my move, but I finally got the boxes and started packing this weekend. Tomorrow’s commute might be where I actually break down exactly what gets packed when. It’s all in my head for now, but it’ll be clean when it’s in Notion.
With the move, I’ve also started ordering the upgrades to my apartment ahead of my move, so I’m free of the furniture I need to sell before the date. I upgraded my monitor and my Mac setup to better align with a work/home productivity station. I love my iMac, but trying to rely on handoff and extending with my work MacBook Pro is just annoying and a single KVM monitor setup with a separate connection for my new Mac mini, MacBook, and (eventually) mini ITX PC is the ideal setup. The monitor only has two ports for switching, so I may need to get creative with the setup once I have all three, but I’m not stressed about it. I started a mockup of the desk setup which is how I relax about the exact design and layout of what I’m shooting for. Exact measurements to make it all look and feel intentional.

What did I learn this week
Not much. I did have a handful of new insights that spawned from work, along with learning a bit about how to sand, stain, and finish wood, but otherwise it was a week of just maintaining output.
What stumped me this week
Weirdly, a plumbing problem was my biggest stumper this week. I have put it on hold because it isn’t urgent, but I’m also debating trying to fix it vs. just calling the maintenance team. I could just do it. But if there are parts that need to be replaced, I don’t want to buy them. Meh.
What did I listen to this week
The way that IZ*ONE’s song Panorama has a hold on me should be studied. Someone probably already has studied it. I am obsessed with it and it’s been four years. I still mourn what was probably an inevitable disbandment, but I’m happy we got IVE and Red Velvet out of it.
I jammed to a lot of TOMORROW X TOGETHER this week at work. I normally need something a little less “dancy” when I work, but their music just hit the right notes for me.
What did I play this week
Still very much chipping away at Avowed still. I find the writing very entertaining even if I do wind up skipping quickly through a lot of it. The enemies are decently challenging but not in the same way that a Souls game is. I don’t wind up hating myself and taking a break after dying. I can adjust and usually win the fight no problem. There is also a lot of reward to exploring every random inch of the map. I’ve found a mage who was killed by attaching a rock to his ankle and throwing him off a dock, a gold item shield tucked away in a sinkhole, and a lot of good lore hidden away in the rafters, in a bathtub, and other random places you wouldn’t always look.

https://www.singlestairatx.org– This week’s link is more informational than fun. I found out this week that there’s a push organizing to get single stair apartments in Austin. Currently, they aren’t allowed, much like every great architectural multi-housing design (don’t get me started on the cast iron building styles of Soho in NYC). While I don’t imagine I’ll live here long enough to live in one if they are allowed, I’d still like to get behind any movement to make them happen in cities around the U.S.
